This video was filmed while ON THE ROAD in Austin, Texas. Chester Pink and I were on a budget, a tight one, so as we made our way through the States, we mostly crashed at friends and motels.
On the way to Austin, we decided on staying at Native Hostel, an upscale hostel in the heart of the city. I wanted to experience living in an uncomfortable situation. We booked a 4-person room, unpacked in our bunkbeds, and set off on doing the tasks of the day. When we returned, we both realized that I would be the only woman in a room of four men. In my confident-self persona, I scoffed at Chester’s suggestion that we switch rooms or move to a motel if I felt uncomfortable. I CAN DO ANYTHING, I said. Then the discomfort set in.
I started having doubts and the what ifs? I began looking at nearby motels. An inner war erupted: one side ridiculed me for being in fear, the other for not following my heart. After Chester’s poking at me for being an Indecisive Lily, I chose to commit to the Discomfort. Hours later, in the midst of the night while our bunkmate was continuously coughing some sort of an insane sickness, I made the decision to leave. This video showcases the VOLATILITY OF INDECISION.
The point is that when we don’t listen to our truths we set ourselves up for this inner war which wobbles on non-committal behavior. In the short term, the admittance of defeat may seem like an ego blow, but in the long run it strengthens our intuition and builds up confidence in self.
ps. this is not a reflection on Native Hostels .. their space is WONDERFUL and I suggest you stay there when you pass through.
