A big misconception about protection training is that the dog needs to be mean or aggressive. The truth is, dogs we see for protection evaluation’s, that are aggressive or “mean” don’t have what it takes. This is because the aggression most dogs display is stemming from fear and lack of confidence. What we are really looking for is a dog that is naturally confident and has prey drive. Axel here is a good example of what we’re looking for. He is 5 months old, has good confidence, and prey drive. When we are done training he is sweet as can be and will be affectionate toward anyone. As Axel matures, we will start shaping his training by gradually adding more control and commands as we continue with his protection training.
