A movie theater in Austin, Texas, paused a screening of ‘The Batman’ on March 4 because a live bat was loose in the theater. Theater employees attempted to remove the animal to no avail.
This footage, recorded by Vincent Genovese at Moviehouse & Eatery by Cinepolis NW Austin, shows theater staff attempting to lure the bat out of the theater. An employee can be heard explaining how they’re going to turn the lights off, and says, “If you are uncomfortable being in the dark with a bat, please remove yourself now.”
Genovese told Storyful they finished the movie with the bat in the theater, but the animal had stopped flying around.
“They never got the bat out while we were there. They called animal control and offered free vouchers and to pick up our tabs,” he said. “It never bothered anyone. It was just flying high above”
The theater told local news outlet KXAN they believe, “a guest tried to pull a prank,” and said they will be “adding additional security and checking all bags upon guest entry.”
Storyful reached out to the theater but did not receive a response at the time of publishing.
