GJJ self-defense fight scene from a heroine film “Austin Strangler ” improvised, directed, co-starring and edited by me JR Rodriguez. I came up with the idea for this short film in 2002 to promote Gracie Jiu Jitsu using a heroine to give the example against a serial killer set in a save little town like Austin Texas. This was pre- Ronda Rousey. I met Rachael Long while shooting a scene for my friend Lupe’s short film. She was open to the physical aspect of learning just enough GJJ for her role and she was excited by the challenge of shooting the whole fight scene all in one take and keeping it as realistic as possible. She was badass, because she only rehearsal 2 days within 2 weeks and no previous GJJ experience. After a couple of takes we nailed it all in one take. I have many years of training and teaching GJJ so I played the serial killer to make her look good. I came off real creepy in my role which disturbs still today. Didn’t like playing the killer, but we were committed to the method form of acting. My latest Channel Hit and Run Production.

Short Film
When a young girl starts suffering from a rare case of narcolepsy, her vivid dreams begin to predict everything she experiences the next day. Her new ability seems interesting and cool, until she has a dream that she gets killed.

Premiered at the Classic Gateway Theatre on June 11th 2017.

Film director and Moody College of Communication alumnus Robert Rodriguez revealed a worldwide green screen film making challenge to students enrolled in The University of Texas at Austin Department of Radio-Television-Film at South by Southwest on March 15, 2013.

To complete the film, Rodriguez needs actors, writers and artists to contribute digital footage or graphic design to each of the three acts. In an intimate discussion closed to the public with RTF faculty member Charles Ramirez Berg, Rodriguez said he wanted to share the contest with students from his alma mater first and gave solid direction on how to launch a career in film.

Bedhead is a 1991 short family-comedy-fantasy film directed and co-written by Robert Rodriguez.

Made while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin, Rodriguez shot the film with his brothers and sisters as actors and with his family and friends as crew. It was entered into several competitive film festivals, where it won cash prizes that Rodriguez then used to help produce his first feature film, El Mariachi.
