Austin city in Texas has many nicknames, such as: ATX, Bat city, Blueberry in the Red State, Cap City, City of Violet Crown, Hippie Haven, Live Music Capital of the World, Liberal City of Texas, River City, Silicon Hills, Waterloo, Spamtown USA, The Capitol City, City of the Violet crown, The Big Nap, Silicon Hills, Waterloo.
Located in central Texas, Austin is the seat of Travis County and the capitol city of Texas. Famed for its musicians such as Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughan, the South by Southwest music and interactive festival has turned Austin into a digital and entertainment powerhouse.
Unlike many major cities, Austin’s skyline isn’t dominated by skyscrapers. This is largely due to a restriction preserving the view of the state capitol building from various locations. Don’t let that fool you, though: Austin is most definitely weird!
The Austin area continues to be regarded by most as the best choice in Texas, with a balance of a strong economy, good education, attractive housing, a relatively pleasant climate, and plenty to do. Highlights include the University of Texas, an important music scene, and a large high-tech industry, including Dell, Inc. in Round Rock, 20 miles north. The 50,000-student university is located on a large campus north of downtown. The walkable downtown preserves a small-town Texas feel and is packed with nightclubs and music venues, including the famous ‘Drag’ and the Warehouse District. Music is mostly rock ’n’ roll, ‘hard’ country, and blues.
